VektorCAD — Sheet View

The Sheet View is where drawings are created and reviewed. It simulates a drafting sheet inside the app and exposes controls to change sheet size, scale, orientation, background color, border visibility, and common zoom/pan actions. A context menu offers command‑specific options.


1) Quick Start

  • Zoom: Mouse wheel up/down to zoom in/out (centered on cursor).
  • Pan: Press and hold the mouse wheel (middle button) and drag.
  • Context Menu: Right‑click to open options for the current command.
  • Zoom Controls (toolbar): Zoom All, Zoom In, Zoom Out, Zoom Window, Pan.
  • Grid Toggle: Click Grid to turn construction grid ON/OFF.

2) UI Anatomy

  • Canvas Area: Interactive drawing sheet with optional border and title block (if enabled).
  • Format UI (Right Panel): Adjust Sheet Size, Scale, Orientation, Background, Border.
  • View Toolbar (Top/Left): Zoom tools, Pan, Grid, and View reset.
  • Status Bar (Bottom): Cursor coordinates, active command hints, current scale.

3) Format UI Options

3.1 Sheet Size

Choose a preset or custom size.

  • Presets: A4, A3, A2, A1, A0 (Portrait/Landscape)
  • Custom: Width × Height (units follow document units)

Fields

  • Preset: A4 | A3 | A2 | A1 | A0 | Custom
  • Width: numeric (enabled when Custom)
  • Height: numeric (enabled when Custom)

3.2 Scale

Controls mapping between model units and printed sheet.

  • Display: 1:1, 1:2, 1:5, 1:10, ... or custom ratio.
  • Affects: viewport zoom baseline and annotation scale.

Fields

  • Sheet Scale: dropdown + custom input (e.g., 1:50)

3.3 Orientation

  • Portrait or Landscape. Swaps sheet width/height for the selected preset.

3.4 Background

  • Color: set sheet/background color (use app theme colors or full picker)
  • Grid Color (optional)
  • Grid Spacing (optional): spacing in drawing units

3.5 Border

  • Show Border: on/off
  • Margin: numeric (outer margin from sheet edge)
  • Line Style/Weight (optional)

4) View & Navigation

4.1 Mouse / Touch

  • Zoom In/Out: Mouse wheel
  • Pan: Press mouse wheel and drag
  • Context Menu: Right‑click

4.2 Zoom Controls (Toolbar)

  • Zoom All: Fit everything visible to the sheet viewport
  • Zoom In: Incremental zoom toward cursor center
  • Zoom Out: Incremental zoom away from cursor center
  • Zoom Window: Drag a rectangle to zoom to selection
  • Pan: Click/drag to move the view

4.3 Grid

  • Grid Toggle: Show/hide grid overlay
  • Snap (if enabled globally): snaps cursor to grid points

5) Context Menu (Right‑Click)

The context menu is command‑aware and updates based on the active tool.

Common items may include:

  • Finish / Confirm current command step
  • Cancel / Undo Step
  • Snap Options (e.g., endpoints, midpoints) — if applicable
  • Selection: Select all / Invert selection — if applicable
  • Zoom shortcuts (Window, All)

Note: Available items vary by command. When no command is active, the menu shows generic view/selection tools.


6) Keyboard & Mouse Shortcuts (optional)

Hotkeys are optional and depend on your workspace settings.


7) Tips & Best Practices

  • Zoom toward the cursor to quickly focus on details.
  • Use Zoom Window for precise framing before editing.
  • Keep Grid ON while sketching primitives; turn it OFF for presentations.
  • If the view feels off after changing Scale or Orientation, use Zoom All to refit.
  • Border helps framing exports; disable it for full‑bleed previews.

8) Troubleshooting

  • Mouse wheel doesn’t pan: Ensure you are pressing (not scrolling) the mouse wheel to pan.
  • Right‑click doesn’t open menu: Confirm no modal dialog is open; try pressing Esc to end the current command, then right‑click again.
  • Grid not visible: Check Grid Toggle and Background/Grid colors for contrast.

9) Summary

  • Create & view drawings in the Sheet View.
  • Adjust size, scale, orientation, background, border via the Format UI.
  • Mouse wheel to zoom; press mouse wheel to pan; right‑click for the context menu.
